GOLDEN SOUL

Photographer
2019

The Harmandir Sahib, known as the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India, is a Sikh sanctuary. Daily, its doors open to welcome thousands of visitors and devotees, uniting them in prayers, meditations, and community efforts. At this sacred site, "Langar" is offered daily, a communal meal that welcomes all who visit the premises. During my visit in 2019, despite the restrictions on photography imposed, I was warmly received by the local Sikhs. Not only were they allowed me to photograph, but they also generously guided me through spaces restricted to the community and workers, such as the kitchen, where immense pots emitted smoke, the dining hall, where thousands were fed, and the laundry area, where communal work came together to ensure the success of Langar. In this brief photographic series, consisting of 7 selected images from approximately 25 film exposures made during a few hours of visit, I seek, through my images, to express what caught my attention during this visit to this sacred temple.
